Announcing Kindergarten at DHUMP! We are very excited and energized by this addition to our program and have assembled an amazing teaching team to create the best kindergarten class ever! Susan Gilbreath and Kim Speece teach the kindergarten class.
Susan Gilbreath holds a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education. Susan brings many years of teaching experience to her classroom. She has taught four years in the British Infant school multi-age classroom (5,6 & 7-year-olds), four years as a 1st grade teacher at the Demonstration School at Berry College and eight years as a 1st grade teacher at Trinity School in Atlanta. She has been a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at DHUMP since 1994.
Kim Speece came to us as a parent in 2002. Kim served as PTA president for two years. This is when she became passionate about beginning a library. Kim is now the librarian of a wonderful and rapidly growing preschool library. She attended James Madison University in Virginia, majoring in Communications and Health Sciences. She was a news producer specializing in health stories for TV stations in Richmond and Charlotte. She was also a freelance producer in New York.
We believe kindergarten students learn best in a hands-on environment and we will continue a thematic, child-based approach to teach kindergarten milestones. Students will be assessed in the Fall and the Spring to track their progress and guide the learning environment for each child.
Continuing in the DHUMP tradition teachers will be available to touch base at pick up time daily. In addition, there will be formal conferences twice a year to keep you informed about the results of your child’s assessment and progress.
